LYNN KLOTZ & ED SYLVESTER: BREEDING BIO INSECURITY 7PM
Pulitzer Prize nominated science journalist Ed Sylvester (The Gene Age) and Lynn Klotz, Senior Science
Fellow at the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation, present their new book Breeding Bio
Insecurity: How U.S. Biodefense is Exporting Fear, Globalizing Risk, and Making Us All Less Secure.
Addressing a popular audience, they argue that the proliferation of high-biosecurity labs nationwide, at a cost
of billions, leaves us more open to deadly accidents or theft than we were before the lethal anthrax-letter
mailings following 9/11. They also recommend concrete actions for the administration, scientists, and all
Americans. An impassioned warning that never loses sight of political and scientific reality, Breeding Bio
Insecurity is a crucial first step toward meeting the evolving national security threats of the twenty-first
century.
