Augusten Burroughs, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Running with Scissors and Dry, visits with This Is How: Proven Aid in Overcoming Shyness, Molestation, Fatness, Spinsterhood, Grief, Disease, Lushery, Decrepitude & More For Young and Old Alike, his exploration of how to survive the "un-survivable" that will challenge your notion of self-help books.

To say that Burroughs has lived an unusual life is an understatement. He has no formal education past third grade and was raised by his mother's psychiatrist. He went from enjoying one of the most successful advertising careers of the eighties, to experiencing a spectacular downfall and rehab stint in the nineties. This is How is his no-holds-barred book of advice on topics such as how to feel like crap, how to ride an elevator, how to be fat, how to get the job, how to finish your drink, and more. Told with his signature black humor, this is Running With Scissors—with recipes.

Augusten Burroughs was born in 1965. A very successful advertising copywriter for over seventeen years, he was also an alcoholic who nearly drank himself to death in 1999. Spurned by compulsion, he wrote his first and only novel—Sellevision, currently in film development—in seven days and quit drinking. His second book, Running with Scissors, remained on the New York Times bestseller list for over four consecutive years, eight months of which were spent at #1. A film based on the book, starring Annette Benning, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Alec Baldwin, was released in 2006. He has published five additional autobiographical volumes—Dry, Possible Side Effects, Magical Thinking, A Wolf at the Table, and You Better Not Cry—all of them bestsellers. He is published in over thirty countries, headlined prestigious literary festivals, and speaks regularly at colleges and universities. Twice honored by Entertainment Weekly as one of the 25 funniest people in America, he continues writing in New York City. More »
