CANCELED | 2010 CARE National Day of Action | Help fight the root causes of poverty and support global maternal health

Today, people all across the country come together in groups to focus on CARE's (The Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere) mission to fight the root causes of poverty—and you can help! This year's event is a call to action on behalf of poor women and families everywhere on the topic of maternal health. Nearly every minute of every day, a woman dies of complications of pregnancy or childbirth. 99% of these deaths occur in poor countries, and nearly all of them are preventable. Local CARE volunteer Kay Gaisford hosts shows a video on CARE's vision and goals and guides a discussion on the recently introduced "Protecting Girls by Preventing Child Marriage Act" and the upcoming "Improving Global Maternal and Child Health Outcomes While Maximizing Successes Act" (The Global MOMS Act).
