At tonight’s family-friendly unicorn-themed event, author Jessica S. Marquis and illustrator Kevin Hedgpeth visit with their book Raising Unicorns: Your Step-By-Step Guide to Starting and Running a Successful—And Magical!—Unicorn Farm. Marquis provides everything you need to make a good living as a unicorn farmer, accompanied by Hedgpeth’s whimsical illustrations. From choosing the right breed (Purebred, Twinkletoe, Karmic, Gigglerump, Horse with Horn) to picking the unicorn farm dream team (an alchemist, stable hands, groomers, the OCV or “On-Call Virgin,” and lawyers), you are guaranteed to have a magical journey.

To round out the mythological festivities, Phoenix improv troupe Unicorn Warpath puts on a kid-friendly comedy show and attendees receive a free take-home unicorn craft. Part of the proceeds from book sales go to Sailbear Labs, a local non-profit organization to develop, inspire, and encourage children as future filmmakers and writers.
