7PM SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4 Meet Louise Nayer: Burned & Cynthia Hogue: Beauty is a Verb
Louise Nayer, longtime educator and author of the award-winning Burned: A Memoir, reads from her book about a family tragedy and ultimate resilience and answers questions about her journey to publication. Poet Cynthia Hogue will be reading from Beauty Is a Verb: The New Poetry of Disability, an anthology of disability poetry, essays on disability, and writings on the poetics of both. She is a contributor to this anthology.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS LOUISE NAYER, writer, educator, has written four books. She has also written two books of poetry, Keeping Watch, and The Houses are Covered in Sound. She teaches a writing workshop on memoir writing at Changing Hands Bookstore immediately preceeding this event, starting at 5:30pm. See more info here » CYNTHIA HOGUE has published seven collections of poetry, most recently, Or Consequence and When the Water Came: Evacuees of Hurricane Katrina (co-authored with photographer Rebecca Ross). Among other awards, she has received Fulbright, NEA, and MacDowell Colony fellowships. In 2003, she joined the Creative Writing Program in the Department of English at Arizona State University as the Maxine and Jonathan Marshall Chair in Modern and Contemporary Poetry. More »
