Norman Ollestad: Crazy for the Storm
06/22/2010 7:00 pm
| Meet Norman Ollestad 7pm Tuesday, June 22 Norman Ollestad visits with his New York Times bestseller Crazy for the Storm: A Memoir of Survival. From the age of three, Ollestad was thrust into the world of surfing and competitive downhill skiing by the intense, charismatic father he both idolized and resented. Yet these exhilarating tests of skill prepared "Boy Wonder," as his father called him, to become a fearless champion—and ultimately saved his life. Flying to a ski championship in February 1979, a chartered Cessna carrying Norman, his father, his father's girlfriend, and the pilot crashed into the San Gabriel Mountains. The plane teetered precariously at 8,200 feet as it was engulfed in a blizzard. Norman's father was dead, and the devastated eleven-year-old had to descend the treacherous, icy mountain alone. TICKETS (free with book purchase) will be called alphabetically to fill seats and will also be used to form the booksigning line. Seating opens to the general public fifteen minutes before the event, so please arrive early, as space is limited.
