Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States, shares The Bond: Our Kinship with Animals, Our Call to Defend Them.
Pacelle argues that through the celebration and stewardship of animals, we can create a new humane economy—one not built on extraction, suffering, and killing. He starts by exploring the deep links of the human-animal bond, as well as the conflicting impulses he says have led us to betray the bond through widespread cruelty to animals. Pacelle also illustrates the different conflicts surrounding both domestic and wild animals, taking readers to places like a crowded slaughter plant in California and the ice floes of an Atlantic Canadian wildlife preserve. Jeffery Masson, the New York Times bestselling author of When Elephants Weep, calls The Bond, “a monumental achievement. Majestic in sweep and beautifully written.”
Changing Hands will donate $1 to The Humane Society of the United States for each hardcover or Google eBook copy of The Bond sold until 5:30pm 4/25/11.
