7pm | DOUBLE AUTHOR EVENT
Melissa Pritchard: The Odditorium | Elizabeth Searle: Girl Held in Home
Melissa Pritchard, ASU Professor of English and Women’s Studies, presents Odditorium, her fourth short story collection. Joining her is award-winning author and scriptwriter Elizabeth Searle, who visits with her novel Girl Held in Home. Both read excerpts that deal with the issue of human trafficking, Pritchard’s short story “The Nine-Gated City” is set partly in a brothel district of Calcutta, and Searle’s novel is based on a real crime in which a woman was held against her will as an unpaid servant in the home of a wealthy American family. Following their readings, Pritchard and Searle discuss the proliferation of women’s and girls’ stories of being trafficked.
