From the pages of Jeff Smedstad's personal kitchen notebooks comes his second book, The Elote Café Notebook. Translated into a cookbook from the chef's constant stream of quickly penciled ideas for new dishes, riffs on old favorites, subtle refinement and major revelations, tools, methods, memories, and musings, The Elote Café Notebook captures the most recent moment in the life of a brilliant, ever-evolving chef and restaurateur.

The Elote Café has in Sedona has become a desert port of call for food lovers from near and far. For those who wish to explore Smedstad's food in their own kitchens, the Elote Café Notebook features 200 recipes including endlessly unique and multipurpose Elote components (sauces, cremas, condiments, salsas, dressings, spice mixes, drink mixes, and syrups) to expand your possibilities.

From welcome-to-Elote popcorn and margaritas, to small plates, blessings from the garden and soup pot, suppers and bliss-out desserts, it's all here, as well as tips for stocking your Elote pantry, making Oaxacan cheese, Elote stock, cajeta, tortillas, and bolillos, using a pit-barrel smoker, and turning an octopus into a tostada and an avocado into an addictive crunchy snack. The Elote Café Notebook is an essential cookbook for anyone who loves Southwestern cuisine.
