| MONDAY, APRIL 11 7pm | Shahla Talebi: Ghosts of Revolution | Shahla Talebi Credit: Molly Smith, ASU State Press |
| ASU Assistant Professor Shahla Talebi visits to discuss her powerful memoir Ghosts of Revolution: Rekindled Memories of Imprisonment in Iran. Talebi and her husband were imprisoned for nearly a decade and tortured, first under the Shah and later by the Islamic Republic. Writing about her own experience and the stories of her fellow inmates, she details prison life, a critical period of social and political transformation in Iran, and how people can hold to moments of love and resilience over the dark forces of torture, violence, and hatred. Both personal and political, a memoir and a meditation, Ghosts of Revolution asks us to reconsider interrogation techniques, government responsibility, and basic daily acts of cruelty. Watch Episode 10 of The Week in Green, featuring an interview with Shahla Talebi who discusses the differences and similarities of political prisoners in Iran before and after the disputed presidental elections of 2009 here » |
