CHANGING HANDS & THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC PRESENT
A SPECIAL LIVE INTERVIEW, Q & A, AND BOOK SIGNING

Damien EcholsDAMIEN ECHOLS
LIFE AFTER DEATH
7PM MON, SEP. 24

Former death row inmate Damien Echols discusses his memoir, Life After Death (hardcover, $26.95), with the Arizona Republic's Richard Ruelas.

In 1993, eighteen-year-old Echols was sentenced to death and convicted for the gruesome murders of three eight-year-old boys in West Memphis, Arkansas along with Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, Jr. The teenagers came to be known as the "West Memphis Three," and their alleged crime the "Robin Hood Hills Murders."

Over the next two decades, the case became known worldwide as a symbol of wrongful conviction and imprisonment. HBO released an award-winning three-part documentary, Paradise Lost (the third, Purgatory, debuted January 2012). Bands and artists like Henry Rollins and Pearl Jam collaborated with Echols or donated album proceeds to their legal defense fund. And now Amy J. Berg and Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson debuted a second documentary, West of Memphis, at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Additionally, production has recently started on Devil's Knot, starring Academy Award winners Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon, based on the bestselling book of the same name by investigative journalist Mara Leveritt. Y is for YorickY is for Yorick
A Slightly Irreverent Shakespeare ABC Book for Grown-Ups
by Jennifer Adams | Hardcover, $14.99 »

When I was an English student and had one of many teachers that possessed an unnatural love for Shakespeare, I often found myself staring blankly at an assigned play wondering, "Who is this Regan chick and what's her problem with Cordelia," or even worse, "What? Another character? REALLY!?" While this book wouldn't have solved most of my problems with the Bard, it certainly would have helped untangle all the important characters. From Ariel in The Tempest to EliZabeth in Richard III (it's a stretch, I know, but creative license... right?), this quick read condenses the seemingly endless pages of drama, tragedy, and comedy in a way only picture books can. —Brenna
