I have very little in common with this author - I'm not Jewish, I didn't go out of state for college, and my mother isn't a therapist. At the same time, I felt like he was writing my story. Page after page, I'd nod my head with understanding sympathy. If you suffer from an anxiety disorder, it's probably your story too. Smith describes his daily struggles with anxiety so vividly (and well researched) that you can feel its presence throughout. I felt that I gained a better understanding of myself and I'll probably be buying copies for my friends and family so they can see how my brain works at times. I recommend this for anyone with or that knows someone who suffers through anxiety.

Walter Moers is said to write children’s stories for grown ups. This is certainly a good way to describe this book! Rumo & His Miraculous Adventures is about Rumo, a Wolperting (a dog-like creature with horns) who becomes an unlikely hero. He’s kidnapped and imprisoned as a puppy by one-eyed demons that like to eat their food alive. While captured, he meets a friend named Smyke who tells him stories and teaches him as he grows up. After a daring escape, he sets off to follow a silver thread he sees when he closes his eyes. A thread he believes leads to his destiny. Along the way he meets many strange creatures, finds a new home, and battles his way into the depths of the underworld. If you want a fantasy adventure book with strange settings and a good sense of humor, look no further! —Mandy

Scud is a robot hit man purchased from a corner vending machine to defeat a killer, female, mutant, pop culture quote spouting, monster with a plug for a head named Jeff. When Scud discovers he will self-destruct when his target is destroyed, he incapacitates Jeff and keeps her on life support in the hospital indefinitely. He then needs to find work to pay the medical bills so they don’t pull the plug, dooming both Jeff and Scud to oblivion. After that, the story gets weird. This book is chock full of insanity, and from the mind of a writer from The Sarah Silverman Show, you really can't expect any less. The frantic, chaotic but entertaining artwork and the hilarious characters will keep you wanting more (and, in this collection, you have every bit of the Scud story to enjoy). If you enjoy crazy mature humor with a sci-fi twist, you'll want to check out Scud.   —Mandy

Did you enjoy movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine? Me neither. While this book inspired parts of the script, it's a lot different. It tells of the humble beginnings of one of the most popular comic book characters in mainstream media. Its melancholy tone, surprise twists, and beautiful art do a great job at filling in the previously untold backstory of the mysterious Logan. Whether you're new to superhero comics or a longtime geek, you should enjoy this read. —Mandy
