I did not know much about Alexander Hamilton going into this book, so I was very pleasantly surprised by the story. I felt like I was stepping into the shoes of Alexander Hamilton and Eliza Schuyler during their budding romance at the time of the American Revolution. It was exciting to see what it was like to be a woman during the 1700's and to see how Alex and Eliza fell in love and changed the fate of the United States for the better. As a woman, Eliza helped the war effort, and Alex served as George Washington's right hand man in the Continental army. This book was eye-opening and informative, and also adorably romantic and I know it will be hard to forget. -Isabel, 15

On her sixteenth birthday, Aurora, the betrothed princess of Deluce, pricks her finger on a gold spinning wheel and falls into a deep slumber. Sound familiar? Not quite. Aurora is transported to Sommeil, a land created by the Night Faerie who refuses to release its inhabitants. Meanwhile, Deluce is put under a sleeping spell: anyone who comes near the sickness will drop like a fly. My favorite part of SPINDLE FIRE was characters’ snappy comebacks that were always right at the tip of their tongues. Filled with non-stop action and gasp-worthy surprises, this clever retelling of the classic story should not be missed! -Olivia, 13

I have always been fascinated by Greek mythology, and David Elliot's interpretation of the myth of the Minotaur in his novel BULL did not let me down. Not only did Elliot's ingenious wordplay made the story a delight to read, but his insightful depictions of each character gave the story a refreshing twist. BULL will both captivate its audience and force them to rethink their image of the famously infamous Minotaur. -Danielle, 13

This story shredded my heart to pieces. All of the horrible things these people had to go through were evil and terrible and cruel. Yet, even with all of the absolutely messed up things going on in the book, I could not put it down. The author just tells you outright what happened to him and and his family, which is what made this book so captivating and enthralling to me; there was no sugar coating or dumbing down, and this adds another layer to the book. Even though it's a story, Michael's tale is highly informative. I learned so much from this book. Which is why I highly recommend it from the bottom of my heart to you. This story is beautiful and messed up and educational. -Ari, 15

This book is the perfect example of girl power. Both girls overcome their own oppression, and both girls face it together. Tourmaline is a typical good girl, and feels like she has no control over her own life. Virginia is a typical bad girl, and she feels the same way. When both girls are pushed out of their comfort zones, they have to band together to face their enemies. DONE DIRT CHEAP was such a great book because it showed me that any girl, no matter their differences, can stick together and find peace. Seeing the characters grow under their terrible circumstances really helped shape the novel into one that will make a lasting impression on you. -Emily, 17

WILD LILY is an account of wealthy teen Antony as he gains a plane and loses his family, forcing him to turn to his friends -- and to his Lily. At first glance I thought this was going to be a lighthearted story about a rich kid in England, so I picked it up. As I read, I came to realize that there was much more to it. With a few intriguing, unique characters and some underlying dark themes, this novel took an unsuspected turn and caught me. This book had me hooked -- from the timely nostalgia of the 1920's, to the exhilarating events of Antony and the people he’s surrounded by. -Hannah, 14

A GOOD IDEA is a book that always leaves you asking questions about what’s going to happen next! The mystery novel has very good pacing on when a large event should happen; it never leaves you bored nor makes you feel like reading is a chore. A large cast of well-developed characters is introduced, even those introduced in the latter half of the book. You can really tell that the main character, whose best friend was murdered, was thirsty for revenge; ruthless, and willing to do anything it took to finally get answers. The setting, a small town in Maine dubbed “Williston”, really gave the book a vibe of distrust and loneliness. My only complaint with the book would be that it ends on a very somber note, which for some readers is not a bad thing. In essence, A GOOD IDEA is a very well-written book which was a blast to read. -Steven, 14

NOWHERE NEAR YOU by Leah Thomas is a fun, quirky adventure that I never ceased wanting to read. All the characters are developed perfectly to a point where I was totally invested in their well being. This story reaches emotional depths that are often hard to find in young adult literature, and tackles issues such as faith, coming out, acceptance, self discovery, and abuse. There is even a little bit of magic within the story as well. All in all, this story is as important as it is beautiful. -Ava, 17

MOXIE was the perfect book for me, the quiet feminist. Vivian is such a relatable character. She is fed up with the way anyone who does not fit in with her small town norm is treated. She is the "good girl," who would never get into trouble, but she still acts on her rage. She gives a voice to every girl at her high school by calling out the misogyny that goes on. As a girl who rarely gets into any kind of trouble, I understood how much anger and courage it took her to act on her thoughts. It showed me that anyone can speak out about injustice. Vivian represents every good girl's thoughts, and for that to be heard is a breath of fresh air. This book is the best book I have read in a long time. -Emily, 17

The way Kat Howard describes her world and the magic inside is breathtaking. The main character, Sydney, is a strong heroine who isn't afraid to go against her morals in order to do what's right. I am always on the lookout for a good stand-alone book, and AN UNKINDNESS OF MAGICIANS is such a good one. Kat Howard beautifully wraps up all of her loose ends and leaves no questions unanswered. If you like fantasy books with badass female main characters, then I suggest you read this one. You won't regret it. I definitely didn't. -Ari, 16

When someone blames you for something you had no part in, you feel a sense of unfairness. Caitlin Sangster brings this feeling to life in her story of people trying to find a new life that is fair for everyone. In this book, everyone is ranked by their birth, or their family, or their mistakes. The people in the upper classes have all the power and get whatever they want while the lower classes are suffering. This story made me realize how grateful I am to have a family and friends that will support and stand up for me. I loved this book’s plot so much that when I finished, I was crying and ready for book two. -Marina, 12

I admire Jule’s unique perspective on the world, her intriguing history, and her uncompromising attitude. This book was engaging and entertaining from the start. I thought it was extremely cool how the book is written in reverse chronology, because at the end, it is easier to understand the reason behind Jule’s decisions. This book was filled with moments of suspense, action, betrayal, and passion. E. Lockhart’s writing style is vivid and descriptive, providing wonderful details of the images seen through Jule’s eyes. I usually takes me weeks to read a book, but I read GENUINE FRAUD in 2 days. -Natalie, 11

This book is a work of genius. The story is unbelievably easy to fly through since the characters are some of the most realistic people I've ever had the pleasure of reading about. The theme of disability and, more prevalently, the idea of hope fill the story with a plot that is constantly meeting, if not exceeding, my expectations. The cutesy friendships keep the tone of the story light, even as the main character, Emilie, faces the personal and social hardships present in a life with epilepsy. Beautiful execution of syntax as well as allusions to classic literature mean there is always something to make you smile. THE THING WITH FEATHERS is definitely worth the read. -Emily, 16

Words cannot describe how impactful this book is. It speaks so beautifully to the struggles of teen girls everywhere and sends messages of self-love and empowerment. It addresses issues of girl hate, feminism and rape culture so poignantly and yet simply enough so that those that are unfamiliar with these issues can better understand them through reading this story. With the times that we are living in now, we need books like this one that are so openly political and unafraid to stand up to the status quo. As a young feminist woman attending a conservative high school, I could really relate to the struggles that the main character faces and felt so unbelievably empowered by her bravery and compassion. It is stories like these that remind me that my voice matters and that I have the ability to create change. -Ava, 17

This book was an adventurous tale of magic, love, and heartless revenge. The story revolves around women finding their place in a male-dominated world. Bashardoust has written perhaps the most awe-inspiring retelling to ever grace shelves. While reading this astonishing novel, I found myself asking a rather odd question: Do characters shape plot? Or does plot shape characters? In GIRLS MADE OF SNOW AND GLASS, this question seemed to become a paradoxical moot point, as there is no way to fall in love with one without inevitably loving the other. Arguably one of the most complex and ruminating versions of Snow White, the book left me contemplating many fundamental ideas present in my own life. Captivating visual imagery and wonderfully feminist ideals add to the stunning plot and characters and can keep any reader engaged. This story is worth any and all hype it receives. -Emily L., 16

Writing a review for a book of this caliber is an impossible task. What am I supposed to say that will live up to what I experienced in finishing the book? The story and the world Marie Lu created far surpasses anything and everything she has written in the past.
