This funny, heartwarming and impactful book will take you on a journey exploring feminism, privilege and self-discovery. I learned so much about nerd culture and how women are oftentimes mistreated and excluded in geek circles. This book ultimately sends really great messages of self empowerment, belonging and acceptance. The story never shied away from the harassment and threats women face from existing online while at the same time remaining fun and engaging with its integration of cosplay and fandom. -Ava, 17

The novel INK was an amazing read. I read it within a day; I couldn't put it down. INK makes you question everything, including ideas within the book. I was instantly hooked by the first chapter. The main character, Leora Flint, is relatable and three-dimensional. I adored her, along with her best friend Verity. I enjoyed the inclusion of the fables and myths of the world and culture Broadway has created. It made everything feel more real and brought me more into the story. While reading INK, I had wanted to get my own marks, and I love the concept for this novel. To sum it up, INK is an novel that sucks you in and definitely needs to be on your TBR list. -Kylie, 13

Wow! This book stirred my brain. Adrianne Finlay has a strong talent for evoking emotion and passion in her writing. I admire Jack & Althea-310 for filling their hearts with love and acceptance for each other despite their differences and struggles. This book showed the importance of emotion, originality, friendship, inclusion, and diversity. As Jack & Althea-310 uncover society’s earliest, darkest secrets, I thought about cultural values, human decency, and the importance of a variety of distinct perspectives that help us better understand ourselves. -Natalie, 11

I love suspense and unreliable narrators with a burning passion, and this book did those two things perfectly. Dawn Lus tells the tale of Lizzie Borden, an infamous killer, and how her abusive parents (and a combination of other things) drove her to pure insanity. But the author adds a creative spin to the tale, as she crafts Lizzie’s tale into our modern day world. I highly recommend this book if you love suspense-filled books! -Ari, 16

I wasn't sure what to expect when I went into BLOOD WATER PAINT, other than it was feminist, and I was pleasantly surprised. This book is amazing. It's based on the true story of Artemisia Gentileschi, a young female painter in the early 1600s. Artemisia is a strong woman who doesn't bow down to any man and speaks up when she is wrong, which I highly respect. If you love stories about strong women, you need to read BLOOD WATER PAINT. -Ari, 16

I’ve been in a major reading slump for months now, so the fact that I not only (finally) picked up a book but finished it in only three days says quite a bit about this story. Christo manages to expertly combine many legends of mermaids and sirens from many opposing mythologies in a beautiful retelling of a classic fairytale. The relationships between characters was a serious selling point for me; there was no awkward dialogue, no forced friendships and not a hint of the notorious insta-love commonly found in this genre. It’s definitely a ‘gateway into reading’ book and a great novel to pull you out of a reading slump. This is the best fairytale retelling I’ve read to date and I can honestly recommend it to anyone. -Emily L., 16

This is a book that really makes you think about many difficult topics that are so often glossed over. And while I can't say this book is particularly uplifting, it was extremely meaningful in its morals and understanding of the complexities of devastating situations. It's a book that you remember as one of the stories that changed your life. GIRL MADE OF STARS forces you to view circumstances with an open mind, and to paint them with a nice shade of grey, rather than black and white. It's a very quick, gripping story and I definitely treasure the knowledge and values the book presents. It's completely worth the read. -Emily L., 16

The main character, Daisy, is a sassy and fiery American girl who gets swept into the life of the Scottish royalty when her older sister Ellie gets engaged to the Crown Prince of Scotland. Daisy is far from fit to lead the life of a princess, which is why she spends her summer in Scotland causing trouble and disregarding the regal and uptight ways of the royals. Stories like this are more important now than they ever have been before. Stories that tell the truth of what the world is really like for those who are not born with a certain characteristics that society has deemed "superior." Stories that unapologetically say that black and brown lives matter. Stories that bring youth to the forefront. Kids have been leaders of the social justice battles that plague our world and not only is it time that adults start listening to us---it is time that youth see themselves reflected in these roles so they are inspired to take that charge. This book does all of these things. -Ava, 17

Marsden, the main character, is doing everything in her power to protect her little sister from her mother’s prostitution and the forest that lurks outside their home, where people go to kill themselves. THE TRUTH LIES HERE is one of the best mystery novels I have ever read. This story of a girl trying to find her missing father is masterfully made. With its well-written characters, settings, and backstories, this story is one that’s easy to start, and hard to put down. Its first person perspective gives it an uncommon charm I haven’t seen in many novels. The protagonist Penelope is easy to relate to, and not once did I find myself bored or lacking motivation to continue reading. Lindsey has successfully inspired me to go back and read her other books, something not many authors have gotten me to do. I can’t recommend it enough: if you give this a shot, you won’t regret it. -Finn, 15

Everyone thinks that Sarah's story is true, including her parents, and after Sarah's martyrdom inspired so many people no one is willing to let Leanne set the record straight. This book is extremely thought-provoking and a story that everyone can enjoy. I’m not a big fan of sci-fi (I tend to prefer fantasy), but LIGHT YEARS is such a wonderful and diverse book that I couldn't put it down. I instantly fell in love with all of the characters and the dystopian world that they lived in. LIGHT YEARS tells the story of four teenagers with nothing in common besides going to the same academy. They all struggle to find their place in the universe, which I related to heavily. If you’re on the fence about sci-fi, I highly recommend that you read this book! You won’t regret it! -Ari, 17

THE ECHO ROOM is a twisty, psychological science-fiction novel that is intriguing and fascinating. The beginning is a bit slow with bursts of action intermeshed, but keep reading. The author builds suspense for the first half of the book without leaking key info before the characters started to realize what they need to do to escape their puzzling rubix cube fantasy-world imprisonment. This book kept me thinking and every word was essential to the story. When you finally realize the truth of Rett and Bryn’s situation, everything clicks and fits together. This book does not spoon feed clues or slow down major storylines and always keeps you on your tiptoes. -Natalie, 12

This book is an absolute masterpiece. A raw, heartbreaking, and inspirational look into the life of a Muslim girl named Shirin as she navigates high school in the year following 9/11. Inspired by the author’s own experiences, this story is immersive and flawlessly written. By allowing me insight into struggles I will never face, this book reminded me of my own immense privilege and inspired a deep empathy in me. Sadly, I had rarely considered that these struggles were another’s daily reality before reading this book.
