Virtual Phoenix Cooks Cookbook Panel
Join award-winning author Christina Barrueta as she sits down with six chefs from her newly-released cookbook, Phoenix Cooks, for a two-part panel on comfort food and recipes for entertaining. Each chef will talk about their part in the Valley’s thriving culinary scene, discuss the recipes they chose to share in the book, and share tips for the home cook. Learn the secrets to Beckett’s Table's shrimp and grits, Jennifer’s Market + Restaurant’s heirloom tomato and watermelon salad, CRUjiente Taco’s Korean fried chicken tacos, and more! The discussion will also be opened for audience questions.

ABOUT THE CHEFS
Alex Stratta – Stratta Kitchen
Early in his career, Chef-owner Alex Stratta was recognized as one of “America’s Ten Best New Chefs” by Food & Wine Magazine, and in 1998, while at Mary Elaine’s at The Phoenician Resort, was bestowed a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southwest. Soon after, he moved to Las Vegas, opening Renoir at The Mirage and later Alex at the Wynn Las Vegas, where he earned two Michelin stars and multiple Forbes, Mobil 5-star and AAA Five Diamond Awards. Back in Scottsdale, this Food Network Iron Chef recently opened Stratta Kitchen, inspired by the flavors of the Mediterranean.
Mark Tarbell – Tarbell’s and Tarbell’s Tavern
Chef and restauranteur Mark Tarbell is the Emmy-award winning host of PBS series Plate & Pour, inductee into the Arizona Culinary Hall of Fame, a James Beard Best Chef: Southwest nominee, and an Iron Chef America winner. His restaurants have collected more than fifty “best of” awards and have graced the pages of Wine Spectator, Travel + Leisure, and Food & Wine.
Richard Hinojosa - CRUjiente Tacos
Chef-owner Richard Hinojosa parlayed his fine-dining experience (the Westin Maui Resort & Spa; Hotel Jerome in Aspen; Mary Elaine’s at the Phoenician) and his many Arizona Taco Festival trophies to open CRUjiente Tacos. Visit this neighborhood favorite – winner of a Foodist Award winner for Best Tacos and a Thrillist winner of Best New Restaurant – for sophisticated Mexican dishes and creative interpretations of street-style tacos.

Christina Barrueta is an award-winning journalist who has been inducted into the Arizona Culinary Hall of Fame and received the Arizona Restaurant Association’s Foodist Award for Best of the Best Food Writer. The author of Arizona Wine: A History of Perseverance and Passion, she has written for publications such as Phoenix Home and Garden, AZ Wine Lifestyle, Four Seasons Magazine, Montage Magazine, and Time Out, and in 2019 was recognized by Arizona Foothills Magazine as Most Influential in Valley Food. Her website, WriteOnRubee.com, has been awarded Best Food Blog by PHOENIX magazine and is a three-time winner of Favorite Local Food Website by Arizona Foothills. She lives in Phoenix, Arizona.
