This event is free and open to the public. No registration required.

Join Rachel Barton Pine and The Phoenix Symphony as we celebrate music by black composers through Ludwig Masters Publications of "MBC Coloring Book of Black Composers," produced by the Rachel Barton Pine Foundation and illustrated by Sho-mei Pelletier.

Rachel Barton Pine will be sharing insights from the book, honoring 40 remarkable international Black classical composers from the 1700s to the present day, as well as insights from her work leading her charitable organization, The Rachel Barton Pine (RBP) Foundation, founded in 2001 to expand awareness and appreciation for classical music. Among the projects of the foundation has been the Music By Black Composers, an initiative dedicated to inspiring Black students to begin and continue instrumental training by showing them that they are an integral part of classical music's past as well as its future, to make the music of Black composers available to all people regardless of background or ethnicity, and to help bring greater diversity to the ranks of performers, composers, and audiences. Renowned composer Florence Price, whose work is prominently featured in the book, will be celebrated in an upcoming performance by Rachel Barton Pine with The Phoenix Symphony who will be showcasing Price's exquisite Violin Concerto No. 2

As part of the talk, there will also be an opportunity to participate in a Q&A with Rachel Barton Pine as well as purchase a signed copy of her book.
