This book would be great for people who like poetry and nonfiction. It tells about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a way that you don't normally see in other books. It tells how bad and unfair things were for African-Americans, and how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. fought for things to be more equal. My favorite part about this book was the art. HUNGER is set in Ireland during the Potato Famine and tells the tale of Lorraine, a young, brave girl who is trying desperately to make sure her family doesn't starve. This book was a ride from start to finish. All of the characters were beautifully written and all had hyper-realistic motivations, which I really loved. I highly recommend that you read this book!! You won’t regret it, I promise! -Ari, 16

Gordon Korman created a wonderful and humorous story when he created WHATSHISFACE. There was the perfect mix of fantasy and history making this an amazing read. At some points in this story, it was hard to tell where there was truth and where there was fantasy; it all just mixed together perfectly. It seemed like this story had just the right amount of insight on how hard it could be to move so much as a kid, but was still not too serious with a light heartened feel. -Lilly, 11

ECHO'S SISTER is truthful and sad, but shows readers that in a hopeless world, the people in the worst of it all can bring hope. I love Paul Mosier’s books because he finds a way to show a tween’s true feelings without writing the book as a diary or journal. ECHO'S SISTER tells the story of a young girl starting a new school and finding new friends, all while her younger sister struggles with cancer. The main character, Laughter, deals with so many feelings: happiness, sadness, despair, worry -- but, most of all, hope. This book showed me how difficult is to sympathize with someone and taught me to be grateful for the health and life I have. -Lola, 11

This is a big issue with kids her age, and the book indirectly teaches that stress is good and bad. Throughout the novel, Esme continues to reflect on her grandpa, and makes a discovery that guides her through that loss. At the end of FINDING ESME, I found myself wanting to read more of Esme’s unique personality and her distinct path to victory. -Lola, 11

Have you ever read about the bear behind the original Winnie-the-Pooh? I have read a few stories, but not like WINNIE'S GREAT WAR. Lindsay Mattick and Josh Greenhut told it in the eyes of the bear which I think is so cool. The coolest thing is that you get to see the bear before he was bought, which you don't get to see too often. Also Lindsay Mattick, one of the author's great granddaughters, was the one who bought the bear which is awesome. I love this book and I think you will too. -Giuliana, 10
