The holidays are here, and e-readersour staff is geared up and ready. People are asking us, "What do you think of e-books and e-readers?"

A good question, often posed anxiously by customers with a friend or family member who's curious about digital reading devices, or who themselves are ready to divide their own reading time between the page and the screen. The question has become more urgent this year as iPads and Kindles start appearing on holiday wish lists and the media continues to tell us that e-readers will be one of the year's hottest gifts. So where does Changing Hands fit in to all of this? More »

I'm Dreaming of a Black Christmas
An Object of Beauty
Griftopia by Matt Taibbi | $36.00 | Hardcover | Matt Taibbi is the most astute political writer out there (and the most hilarious), and for the past two years he has been covering the financial shell-game that has brought a once powerful economy to its knees. Griftopia: Bubble Machines, Vampire Squids, and the Long Con That Is Breaking America is a must-read for anyone who wants financial reform -- in order to reform a system, you first have to understand it, and no one explains our complex financial and political systems better than Matt Taibbi. - Sarah B.

I'm Dreaming of a Black Christmas by Lewis Black
| $19.95 | Hardcover | For most people, Christmas is a time of peace and goodwill. But most people are not Lewis Black. Like Dickens's most famous curmudgeon, Black says Humbug to carols, holiday dinners, Christmas trees, decked halls, and boughs of holly. In I'm Dreaming of a Black Christmas, he dares to celebrate the holiday season the only way he knows how: by letting loose on all things Yule.

An Object of Beauty by Steven Martin | $26.99 | Hardcover | Lacey Yeager is young, captivating, and ambitious enough to take the NYC art world by storm. Groomed at Sotheby's and hungry to keep climbing the social and career ladders put before her, Lacey charms men and women, old and young, rich and even richer with her magnetic charisma and liveliness. Her ascension to the highest tiers of the city parallel the soaring heights -- and, at times, the dark lows -- of the art world and the country from the late 1990s through today.

Luka and the Fire of Life Luka and the Fire of Life by Salman Rushdie | Hardcover $25.00
If you read Haroun and the Sea of Stories, you'll understand why I love this semi-sequel! We return to the Khalifa family and embark on a new journey with Haroun's little brother Luka. Their storytelling father, Rashid, the legendary Shah of Blah, falls suddenly and inexplicably into a sleep so deep that nothing and no one can rouse him. To save him from slipping away entirely, Luka must embark on a journey through the world of magic. Rushdie continues to weave wit and humor into another magical children's book for kids and adults alike. -Brandi

Auden, Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams, and Allen Ginsberg.
