It's hard to put into words how much I loved this book. Everything about it is beautiful, the characters are well crafted, the writing lyrical, and the story intense. But perhaps most importantly, this is a story that lingers. Long after it has been put away it will invade your thoughts calling out to be read over and over again.
It has been a long time since I read a book as beautifully written as this. The story, the characters, the writing--it's all just amazing. It's gorgeous and I think you will love it too.
This is a heartwarming and beautifully written story of love, courage and the ability to understand one's own limitations. Dominy brilliantly captures the struggles and challenges that come with a life changing medical diagnosis. I loved everything about this book and it will always have a special place in my heart.
I loved this book so much. It's hilarious and fun and the illustrations compliment the book perfectly. I started laughing at the first page and did not stop until the end. It's a quick read and will make a great addition to any child's library.
This book was so much fun to read! The story was creative, the characters interesting, and the action scenes plentiful. And it was so fast paced there were moments it felt as if I was watching a movie. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes comics or movies... or both.
This is my new favorite picture book. It is hilarious! The illustrations are both cute and funny. I can't wait to read it aloud for Storytime.
A hilarious and fun take on The Wizard of Oz story. I had so much fun reading this book that I refused to put it down until it was over. It was creative and interesting and perfect for anyone who likes fractured fairy tales or reimagined classics.
This is a good start to what I hope will be a long series. It's a fast paced action adventure fantasy that will keep you entertained until the very end. Great for fans of Veronica Roth and Marie Lu.
This is a fantastic debut that will leave you on the edge of your seat. The story is dark and intense; the main character, Billy, is as flawed as he is heroic. This story is a must read for anyone who likes suspense and mystery.
Un-putdownable! A fun and interesting (and only sort of terrifying) book that kept me reading until the wee hours of the morning. I loved everything about it and I think you will too.
Horror for people who don't like horror. When I read the premise, I expected it to be a straight up horror novel similar to the movie The Ring (in fact it's the same spirit as in the movie), but what I got was a story that yes, had some anger and vengeance, but also love and redemption. I enjoyed this book much better than I thought I would and I hope you will too.
I love everything about this book. It made me feel, both in story and writing style, like I did when I first read The Witch of Blackbird Pond. The characters are well crafted and the story has enough twists to keep anyone on the edge of their seat. This is definitely a book that every library should have.
A beautifully poignant and darkly humorous story of love, death, friendship and graveyards. A unique debut for the unique reader.
This is a beautiful story of a girl who decides to put her heart in a bottle thus protecting it from the world. I love, love, love this book and I read it anytime I feel the need to shelter my own heart. Even though the story never specifically mentions loss or heartache, it's slightly ambiguous nature is precisely why this book works so well for anyone, child or adult, experiencing such things.
I loved everything about this book! From the characters to the themes, it all worked together to form a really fun and interesting story. I think it would make an excellent book-club book, it just lends itself to detailed discussion.
Look out John Green, here comes Tom Leveen. Once again, Leveen has managed to expertly capture the teen voice in a raw and gripping story of cyber-bullying and teen suicide. A must read for fans of John Green and Jay Asher.
A dark and humorous story and I loved it. Dorothy is a spoiled sociopath, Tin Man is obsessively in love with Dorothy, Lion massacres villages and Scarecrow conducts crazy experiments on the citizens of Oz. All in all, it's a wonderful debut.
Edgar the Raven is as mischievous as he is adorable as he shouts "nevermore" in this humorous homage to Poe's classic poem.
In the five years since my diagnosis, I have read a lot of books about breast cancer. But this is quite possibly the most important one ever written. It is concise and beautiful as it gently guides you through the emotional journey that is a cancer diagnosis. This is a must-read for everyone! Whether you are a caregiver,a survivor, a medical professional or newly diagnosed, this is the perfect book for you.
Jon Muth's latest book is a great example of why he is one of my all-time favorite authors. His gorgeous illustrations are the perfect accompaniment to the quiet beauty of his stories. Even if you are not a fan of haiku, this book will capture your heart and leave a smile on your face.
I laughed to whole way through this book! It is charming and delightful with big, bright illustrations. It's perfect for anyone who loves picture books.
Tom Leveen has managed to once again create a fun and well crafted story. Sick is a fast paced, high action horror novel with enough cracked bones and flesh eating to satisfy just about anyone. In short, this book is sick.
The Hollow Earth series is a fun and innovative fantasy adventure starring Matt and Emily Calder, twins who have the extraordinary ability to bring paintings to life. But in a world where art can set nightmares free, will the twins be able to keep the monsters of Hollow Earth from being released?
Every once in a while a book comes along that brings my world to a screeching halt and changes it forever. None have done more so than Wendy Halperin's new book Peace. From the moment I opened it, I knew I would never be the same. Halperin takes the idea of peace from a global one, "for there to be peace in the world", to a personal one, "we must have Peace in our hearts". Each page contains several illustrations bordered by quotations from respected leaders and peace makers throughout history. These illustrations and quotations create layers of meaning, thereby elevating the story to a completely new level. Go out and pick it up, I guarantee it will change your life.
A beautiful and remarkable novel filled with baseball, friendship, love, a hint of Mary Poppins and some of the funniest teens ever found in Young Adult literature. I think Mary Poppins would agree with me that this book is, "practically perfect in every way."
