Daniel Handler and Sarah Vowell

Daniel Handler and Sarah Vowell
New York Times' bestselling authors Sarah Vowell and Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snickett) will be in conversation onstage together at Mesa Arts Center.

Vowell, author of Lafayette in the Somewhat United States, examines the connections between the American past and present, with personal, often humorous accounts of everything from presidents and their assassins to colonial religious fanatics.

Handler's most recent adult novel is All the Dirty Parts, an unblinking take on teenage desire in a culture of unrelenting explicitness and shunted communication, where sex feels like love, but no one knows what love feels like. With short chapters in the style of Jenny Offill or Mary Robison, Daniel Handler gives us a tender, brutal, funny, intoxicating portrait of an age when the lens of sex tilts the world. More »

The Art of Mondo

Brad Bird (Foreword by), Tim League (Introduction by) | Hardcover, $75.00 »

The Art of Mondo If you are a fan of film and poster art, you simply gotta check out this book. I first became aware of Mondo and Alamo Theater in 2010. That was when I stumbled on a picture of Martin Amis's Bride of Frankenstein while surfing online. I was immediately smitten! And much to my delight and surprise, I was able to find an original print on EBAY! That is much harder to do these days. Word has gotten out. But, you can find the best of Mondo right here at your fingertips. Just flip through the pages and revel in the beauty within. And If you are like me–a quick perusal of the phenomenal artwork–and you will be checking out Netflix tonight. John Carpenter's The Thing anyone? Or perhaps The Creature from the Black Lagoon. More recent films are here, as well. Grab your popcorn and make it a night! A great coffee table book.  —Walt's Picks
